Master Class 2010
Notes from Master Class 2010
- Select a person in the station at an early point who will co-ordinate the entry process. This person should ideally be someone who is very familiar with your output and is visible to, and has good contacts with, people working in programming.
- Plan your strategy at an early point. Log items either on paper or with audio across the year and review this log at regular intervals. Decide what categories you will focus on and think of the competition that will be in those categories.
- The judges are looking for an entry that will stand above the others. All entries will probably be very good radio. What will make your entry standout. Remember the judges are radio people.
- Be ruthless in your editing. You will not be able to include all the great radio you have available. Don’t duplicate unnecessarily. Look for the elements that will make your entry stand out and put these in at an early point. You won’t be able to include everyone so only include the material that enhances your entry as a listening experience for the judges. Don’t over produce or use all the time available if you don’t need it.
- Decide what you want to convey in the overall entry and edit to achieve this. Don’t leave the judges guessing what story you are trying to tell about the programme or personality. Read, read, read and re-read the entry criteria and edit with these in mind.
- Packaging is not vital. Material should be presented in a professional manner but this does mean expensive packaging. Use the 250 words to put the entry in context. Include a running order and listen back to the audio to make sure it is all there.
